Harriet Moses Tubman Fine Art Print

When we think of Harriet Tubman, we often picture her on the road, moving from place to place under the cover of night. Hiding in bushes, traveling from safe house to safe house with newly freed families, she was constantly on high alert, I imagine, fueled by adrenaline. This artwork captures a quiet, yet resolute, moment at home, just before she returns to rescue more enslaved souls.

As some of you may know, Harriet Tubman's name wasn't actually Moses; it was a nickname. Within the African-American community, she was called Moses or Black Moses. Many viewed her in the same light as the biblical Moses, who freed the Jews from Pharaoh. I felt this was a vital element to include in the naming of this painting.

She has been on my list of subjects for some time, and I love how the bright light streams through the window. You all know how much I enjoy adding texture to a painting, and I’m torn on which part of this piece I like best. The wall texture is perfect, the cultural elements of her outfit work beautifully, and the gun and holster were so much fun to paint.

Art is an investment in your environment. Whether you are a seasoned collector or just beginning to build your legacy, our prints offer a way to live with affordable, long-lasting, high-quality artwork every day. Each piece is crafted to bring the depth of a gallery experience into the sanctuary of your home.
