NAH
Artist: Vincent Keele
Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 20X24
After waiting days for an opening at the salon, a young woman leaves with fresh blue braids and striking red nails. She hops on a bus to work, running a little late. She chooses a seat near the front and pulls out her book to read. Since it’s a long ride, she has time to disconnect from the chaotic noise of the city outside her window. While reading, she quietly reflects on the privilege of being able to sit wherever she likes on the bus, thanks to the resilience of trailblazing civil rights advocate Rosa Parks. The bus is riddled with graffiti, and she wishes someone had painted Rosa’s face and her legendary cry, “NAH,” to remind others of their power.
